Nipomo marcasite agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of rare Nipomo marcasite in agate, from that famous location in Central California. Years ago, I was told the bean fields where this great old material was once collected now has condos built all over it, so that's it, folks. This example features translucent bluish agate between brilliantly shiny metallic 'chromed islands' of marcasite. Plumes, actually, with oodles of gleam! Nipomo marcasite is an extremely challenging material to photograph because it's so highly reflective. I didn't do real well on these pics but hope they're enough to give you the idea; it's ridiculously shiny in hand, and seen in the last photo, and vastly more beautiful! The cab has a well rounded dome of 5mm, a designer 'drop' shape, and a bright gleaming polish both front and back.
