Luna agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of collectible luna agate, from Mexico. This classic material showed up at this year's Tucson show, but I can't tell you if this old favorite is being actively mined again or not; I hope so, but meanwhile, I'm just glad to have it! This gemmy, translucent example shows several well defined bullseyes and orbs, along with some beautifully wild fortification banding. There's an unusual dendrite present too. The color in luna agate, I am told, comes from fluorite, giving this one delicate lavender and purple shades. The stone has a generously high rounded dome of nearly 8mm, a crisp designer shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
