Description
~ Amethystine sowbelly agate cab ~

Offered here is a cabochon of amethystine 'sowbelly' agate, from the Last Chance silver mine in Creede, Colorado. This high grade material certainly cuts fabulously rich looking stones, I must say! This example was shaped and polished by my son, Chris, and it features beautiful purple amethyst crystals, very gemmy, the prettiest part of several rows of bands in alternating lavender and white shades. The tiny dark flecks are actually silver ore, which is what the Last Chance miners of the 1890s were after. I'm sure glad some escaped the crusher because it's absolutely fascinating stuff, though it is seldom seen these days. This cab has a high dome of 6.5+mm, a crisp rectangular shape, and a slick, gleaming polish both front and back.

Size: 30x24mm
Weight: approximately 56 carats
