Description
~ Turritella agate cab ~

Offered here is a fasinating cabochon of turritella agate, from Wyoming. This ancient fossilized material is chock full of turrietella shells, from which it takes its name. The white shells of many sizes are quite apparent in this nicely composed example, going every which way, several of them filled with agate of various colors. Some of the agate is translucent, showing the interior of the shells, while other areas are milky, black, smoky or bluish. The beautifully busy network of shells stand out wonderfully against the rich brown background, and there's even a sparkly pocket of drusy at one side. Turritella agate was never a favorite of mine until recent years, when I finally got my hands on some of this great old solid stuff. It's a joy to work with, gemmy enough to take an excellent glassy shine. I'm sure you'll like it too, give it a try! The cab has a well rounded dome of 5.5mm, and a crisp designer 'spear' shape, polished both front and back.

Size: 66x25mm
Weight: approximately 54 carats
