Crown of Silver Psilomelane cab ~
Offered here is a splendid cabochon of Crown Of Silver psilomelane, from Chihuahua, Mexico. This classic old material is sometimes referred to as 'black malachite', though there's no real relation. It's becoming increasingly spendy in recent years due to a lack of production at the source. This cab features razor fine banding and a couple very wide bands in shiny 'smoked chrome' alternating with sub-metallic black, which is always the perfect companion to mokume gane. Some of the bands are so thin and so close together, they don't display well on computer monitors, so please click to enlarge the photos; those larger pics better illustrate what our human eyes see of the stone in hand. This cab has a well rounded dome of 7mm, and a gracefully fluid designer shape you're sure to have fun with. It was tough to capture good photos because of the super reflective mirror-like polish, which it has both front and back.
