Ajoite chrysocolla cab ~
Offered here is an arresting cabochon of rare ajoite in quartz, highly collectible material from the New Cornelia mine just south of Ajo, Arizona, from which the name is derived. As you can see, chrysocolla and malachite are also present, but most of the brilliant blue in the stone is ajoite. I did my best with the pics, but the colors are far more vivid and saturated than shown, and the dark streaks are actually shiny metallic veins, which you can just make out in the highlights. The quartz has a very pleasant translucence too, just gorgeous! The stone has a well rounded dome of 6.5mm, a long pillow shape, and a fine glassy polish both front and back.
