flame agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of flame agate, from Mexico. I shaped this stone yesterday from a chunk of extraordinary old stock material, the like of which has become increasingly harder to come by these days. It has an outstanding display of well defined plumage, in very appropriate fiery crimson shades. The background agate is beautifully translucent, as the backlit photo illustrates; without backlighting, the agate is colored slightly purple here and there, showing small glittery patches of crystalline quartz, snowy clouds and subtle fortifications. Absolutely superb! The cab has a low rounded dome of 4mm, a designer 'flame' shape (of course), and a slick, glassy polish both front and back.
