Buck eye chalcedony cab ~
Here is a fat cabochon of unusual buckeye chalcedony, from Nevada. I have also heard this material refered to as 'Smiley Day jasper', though recently I was told that name isn't precisely correct. It does have a texture similar to porcelain jasper, in that it is of extreme hardness, so it takes a most excellent brilliant polish. This eye-catching cab is a fine example, featuring a swirling pattern of contrasting rust and pastel orange figures in a creamy old ivory background. The stone has a very high rounded dome, a crisp symmetrical shape, and a super glassy polish both front and back.
