Orthoceras fossil cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon cut from blackish marble that includes an orthoceras fossil, found in Morocco's Sahara desert. The orthoceras fossil lived more than 400 million years ago, an extinct ancestor of our present-day squid, octopus, nautilus and cuttlefish. In this example, you can clearly see several of the shell's chambers, preserved in contrasting white and gray. Every fossil fan's gotta have at least one! The cab has a low but nicely rounded dome, and a great glossy polish both front and back.
